One out of every three new cases infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the United States were in Florida and Texas last week, according to a Biden administration counselor.
Jeff Zients, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, told reporters in a press briefing on Monday that 17% of cases were in seven states with the lowest rate of vaccination across the country.
Most of the new cases carry the highly transmissible Delta variant.
However, nearly half the U.S. population is now fully vaccinated, with more than three million people receiving their first jab over the past week.
