Nasdaq and S&P 500 Close at New Record Highs

The main indices of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closed mostly higher on Thursday, supported by an improved investors’ sentiment and strong gains by the technology sector, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq closing at new record highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined marginally by 0.02% and closed nearly unchanged at 31,430.7 points.

The S&P 500 index rose by 6.5 points, or 0.17%, at closed at a new all-time high of 3,916.4 points.

Likewise, the Nasdaq Composite Index rose by 53.24 points, or 0.38%, and finished at a record 14,025.77 points.

All the three indices touched new intraday highs earlier in today’s session, supported by the decline in the U.S. jobless claims and the recent remarks by the Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, who pointed to the continuity of easing policies until the economy recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.
