Euro Gives up Some Gains And Focus on Ukraine Talks

The euro gave up some of its gains on Thursday as investors closely watched any developments in talks between Russia and Ukraine, while monetary policy decisions by the US central bank failed to impact the market as expectations of a rate hike were high.

The euro rose 0.05 percent to $1.1034, after hitting a one-week high of $1.1067 earlier in the session.

The Russian ruble fell 16 percent to 105.18 per dollar, after rising to its highest level since February 24 at 88.5 on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the performance of the US currency against six major currencies, fell 0.2 percent to 98.325, after falling to its lowest level in a week at 98.151.

The Japanese yen fell 0.1 percent to 118.67 per dollar, moving away from its lowest level since February 2016 at 119.12 hit on Wednesday.

The Australian dollar rose 0.5% to 0.7328 against the dollar.
