NYSE Finishes Lower Reversing Earlier Gains

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) finished Monday mostly in losses, erasing earlier gains amid worries about recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, with the rising number of infections with the new Delta variant, especially after the PMI showed slower expansion in U.S. economic activity last month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 97.31 points, or 0.3%, settling at 34,838.16 points, reversing about 350 points in earlier gains after reaching 35,192 earlier in the session.

The S&P 500 index declined by 8.10 points, or 0.2%, to finish at 4,387.16 points.

On the other hand, the Nasdaq Composite Index finished marginally higher, adding 8.39 points, or 0.06%, to close at 14,681.07 points.

Meanwhile, recent remarks by Federal Reserve officials suggested plans to begin tapering the large asset purchases soon.
