The United Kingdom (UK) is near to reaching a trade agreement with Japan, as the two countries have reportedly reached substantial progress in negotiations for a bilateral post-Brexit trade deal.
A preliminary agreement could be signed by the end of August, Reuters reported.
“We agreed to accelerate talks with an aim of reaching an outline agreement by the end of August.”
said Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Toshimitsu Motegi.
“We have reached consensus on the major elements of a deal, including ambitious provisions in areas like digital, data, and financial services that go significantly beyond the EU-Japan deal.”
said the British Minister of Trade, Liz Truss.
Trade exchange between London and Tokyo amounted to GBP 31.6 billion ($41 billion) last year.
