Trump Freezes Iran Strike as Gulf Powers Push for Last-Minute Deal

US President Donald Trump has postponed a planned military strike on Iran after urgent appeals from Gulf leaders, opening a narrow window for diplomacy in a crisis that had appeared dangerously close to exploding into a wider regional war.

Trump said leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates urged Washington to delay the operation for several days, arguing that negotiations with Tehran were suddenly showing signs of progress. He described the latest talks as a potentially “very positive development” and said there was now a real chance of reaching an agreement without launching a major military assault.

Middle East on Edge as War Fears Intensify

The decision comes after weeks of escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, including air strikes, missile launches, and growing fears of a direct regional confrontation. Despite the temporary pause, Trump made clear that the US military remains fully prepared to strike if diplomacy fails or if Iran refuses to meet Washington’s conditions.

Iran responded cautiously but firmly, warning the United States against further escalation and insisting that any future agreement must include guarantees against new attacks and respect for Iranian sovereignty.

Oil Markets Shaken by Hormuz Tensions

The crisis has already rattled global energy markets and raised fears of severe economic disruption. Concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes — have fueled volatility in oil prices and heightened anxiety across Gulf capitals.

Regional governments are reportedly worried that any new military escalation could expose airports, ports, oil facilities, and other critical infrastructure to retaliatory attacks, threatening both regional stability and global energy supplies.

Fragile Negotiations Offer Narrow Escape Route

Behind the scenes, negotiations between Washington and Tehran are continuing through regional mediators, with both sides reportedly exploring temporary compromises to calm tensions and avoid a broader conflict. However, major disagreements remain unresolved, and no final deal has been confirmed.

The diplomatic push comes at a politically sensitive moment inside the United States, where growing public unease over another Middle East conflict is adding pressure on the White House amid concerns about inflation, energy costs, and economic uncertainty.

One Miscalculation Could Change Everything

Although the latest developments have eased fears of an immediate military strike, the region remains on edge. Military forces remain on high alert, and analysts warn that even a single incident could rapidly collapse the fragile diplomatic momentum and push the Middle East back toward open confrontation.
