New Meta app Threads dethrones OpenAI’s ChatGPT and becomes the world’s fastest growing app in terms of users.
Since Threads launched less than a week ago, the Instagram-related app has seen huge growth in users, until it surpassed 100 million subscribers on Monday.
Mark Zuckerberg, head of Meta, confirmed that this increase occurred naturally and without major promotions.
Threads thus surpassed ChatGPT, which reached those levels of user numbers in January, two months after its launch.
Threads has faced accusations that it imitates the Twitter app, as the company owned by Elon Musk has threatened to sue Meta amid allegations that it used trade secrets and other confidential information.
Meanwhile, Twitter experienced a user drop of about 5% in the first two days of Threads’ launch, according to data from web analytics firm Similarweb.
