The Collapse of US Futures Contracts Ahead of The Opening

The futures contracts of US stock indices recorded a very negative performance before the opening of trading in light of global concerns about the new Coronavirus, which led to strong fluctuations in global financial markets.

The futures contracts for the DOW JONES index decreased by 2.20% and settled at the level of 34,981 points, while the futures contracts for the S&P 500 industrial index decreased by 1.64% before the opening of the US stock trading, and recorded 4,623 points.

At the same time, the futures contracts for the Nasdaq Composite Index decreased by 154.00 points, or 0.95%, before the trading session, and recorded about 16,212 points.

The US stock market indices ended trading on Thursday in marked contrast, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed slightly down by 9.42% to reach 35,804.38 points, while the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose by 10.76 or 0.2% to 4701.46 points. Also, the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 70.09, or 0.4%, to 15,845.23 points.
