Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire agreement in Gaza as part of a deal to release Israeli hostages held in Gaza, according to a recent announcement by the Palestinian Hamas movement.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, preempting the official announcement of the truce via his social media platform “Truth Social.”
Hamas announced a short while ago that its negotiating delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, had delivered its approval of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of hostages and detainees in the Gaza Strip to the mediators.
The movement said in a statement that “the leadership of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has just delivered its response to the proposed ceasefire agreement to the brotherly mediators.”
The movement’s political bureau had held an emergency meeting to discuss the proposal submitted in this regard.
Hamas affirmed that it had “dealt with the matter with all responsibility and positivity, starting from its responsibility towards its patient and steadfast people in the Gaza Strip”.
