Inflation in Germany changes direction and rises in June

Inflation rose in Germany in June, snapping a steady decline since the beginning of the year.

Data from the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday showed consumer prices, harmonized to facilitate comparison with other countries in the European Union, rose 6.8 percent year-on-year in June.

Core inflation, which strips out volatile items such as food and energy, was 5.8 percent in June, up from 5.4 percent in May.
