European Stocks Close Mixed Following ECB Meeting

European stocks closed Thursday on a mixed note, following the European Central Bank’s (ECB) latest policy meeting in which it decided to maintain interest rates unchanged.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index finished higher by 0.15%.

Meanwhile, the French benchmark index CAC40 and the German DAX closed lower by 0.67% and 0.11%, respectively.

In the UK, the FTSE100 index settled lower by 0.37%.

The President of ECB, Christine Lagarde, told reporters after the meeting that uncertainty remains high and that the ECB will monitor developments in the exchange rate, expecting lockdown measures against the Coronavirus pandemic to impact economic recovery during the first quarter of the year.
