Fourth gas leak detected in Nord Stream pipeline

A Swedish Coast Guard spokeswoman said the coast guard discovered a fourth gas leak from the Nord Stream pipeline earlier this week.

The European Union suspects that there is an act of sabotage behind the gas leakage from Russian pipelines that extend under the sea to Europe and has promised a “strong” response to any deliberate disruption of energy infrastructure.

Although Nord Stream’s two lines were out of service at the time of the suspected explosions, they have been filling up with gas that has been seeping into the Baltic Sea since Monday.

The Swedish Coast Guard stated that the fourth leak in Nord Stream 2 is located close to a larger hole discovered in the nearby Nord Stream 1 line.

This week, the Danish authorities announced the discovery of a hole in each of the two pipelines in the part located within its territorial waters.
