European Union leaders are set to agree at a summit later on Monday that the package of sanctions being prepared should include a ban on Russian oil imports as punishment for Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, with the exception of pipeline supplies.
But the leaders, who have been unable to agree on all the details of the oil embargo, will leave the final agreement on the package until later.
“The European Council agrees that the sixth package of sanctions against Russia will cover crude oil, as well as petroleum products, supplied by Russia to member states, with the temporary exception of pipeline-delivered crude oil,” the latest draft of the summit decision, seen by Reuters, said.
