Nikkei Rises, Supported by Wall Street Gains

The Nikkei average rose on Tuesday, boosted by optimism about corporate business results, and after overnight gains in US, stocks pushed the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Standard & Poor’s 500 indexes to record levels.

The Nikkei closed up 1.8 percent to 29106.01 points, after rising at the open and retaining its gains.

The broader Topix index rose 1.2 percent to 2013.73 points.

Sony Group shares rose 2.6 percent to their highest level since 2000 ahead of Thursday’s results.

Panasonic Corp. rose 5.6% after it unveiled a battery that will help Tesla, one of its customers, cut costs 5.4%, and Toyota Group advanced by 2.9%.
