The office of British Trade Secretary Lise Truss said that she discussed progress toward a free trade agreement with the United States during talks with her US counterpart on Monday, pointing to the need for closer economic relations between the two countries.
Truss’s office said she telephoned Catherine Tay to congratulate her on her appointment as the US Trade Representative and “discussed the progress made in negotiations for a free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States and the importance of continuing to work together to build a closer economic relationship and agreed to hold further discussions.”
