U.S. House Moving Forward with Impeaching Trump a Second Time

The United States House of Representatives is going through on Wednesday with impeachment procedures against President Donald Trump.

This would be the first time in U.S. history that a president is impeached twice.

It has been reported that some Republicans in the House are set to vote in favor of the articles of impeachment, with Trump being widely accused of encouraging the recent domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol, where rioters stormed the Senate floor.

If, or when as it seems inevitable, the House passes the articles of impeachment, it would be sent to the Senate, where a trial is expected to take place, however, removal from office seems unlikely with Republicans remain in control of the chamber until the recently elected senators from the state of Georgia are sworn in.

Moreover, the Senate will need to reconvene to hold a session soon.

Bloomberg gas reported that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer suggested the option of invoking a 2004 emergency session law to convene a trial this week.

This would need the approval of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Nevertheless, McConnell is reportedly, according to the New York Times, happy with the impeachment, as it is set to reduce Trump’s influence over the Republican Party after about five years in which he had what is seen as too much control from an outsider who challenged many of the party’s norms.

Prior to the beginning of the process, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, called upon Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to remove Trump from office, following the 25th amendment to the constitution.
