Lionsgate Studios has appointed Steven T. Mnuchin, the former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, to its board of directors as the company looks to accelerate growth following its separation from Starz last year.
The studio said Mnuchin’s financial and regulatory expertise will be a key asset as Lionsgate expands as a standalone content company. Beyond his public service, Mnuchin brings deep industry experience, holding more than 35 executive producer credits on major titles, including Avatar and other blockbuster films.
Mnuchin served as Treasury Secretary from 2017 to 2021 during President Donald Trump’s first term. In 2021, Liberty Strategic Capital—his Washington-based private equity firm—acquired a 5.5% stake in Lionsgate’s Class A voting shares, making him a significant investor in the company.
“Steven brings a long record of public and private sector leadership and is an exceptional addition to the Lionsgate board,” said Dr. Mark Rachesky, Lionsgate’s board chair. “His steady judgment, global perspective and deep industry insights will be enormously valuable as Lionsgate continues to grow as one of the world’s leading pure-play content studios.”
Rachesky added that Mnuchin’s interests are aligned with those of shareholders, noting that both he and his fund are major Lionsgate investors. “We look forward to working closely with him on the creation of further shareholder value,” he said.
