The Financial Times reported that the British government plans to pass new legislation that overrides key parts of the Brexit deal to withdraw from the European Union, which threatens to break down negotiations with Brussels.
Citing three sources familiar with the plan, the newspaper said that provisions in the internal market legislation, due to be published on Wednesday, are expected to “erase the legal force of parts of the withdrawal agreement” in areas including state aid and Northern Ireland customs.
A source told the newspaper that the move could “strongly and clearly” undermine the agreement on Northern Ireland signed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson last October.
