Major stock indexes opened mixed on Monday as investors seem to be choosing to stay on the sidelines ahead of this week’s macroeconomic data releases.
At the time of writing, the S&P 500 touched a record 4,372 posting modest losses to 4,360. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4% to 34,730 and the Nasdaq Composite rose to 14850, down 0.15%.
Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Energy Index is down 0.5%, weighed down by a 1.7% drop in crude oil prices. On the other hand, both health care and real estate indicators are in positive territory.
