The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closed mostly lower on Wednesday, with Wall Street investors reacting to a weaker than expected jobs data and remarks by the Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Richard Clarida on recovery from the pandemic.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 323.73 points, or 0.9%, to close at 34,793 points.
The S&P 500 fell by 20.49 points, or 0.5%, to finish at 4,402.66 points.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite Index added 19.24 points, or 0.1%, to settle at 14,780.53 points.
Earlier, Clarida said that the needed factors to begin raising interest rates could be intact by the end of next year, which would help the Fed raise interest rates in early 2023.
