U.S. Markets Shut Down for Labor Day

Markets across the United States are closed today in celebration of Labor Day.

The long weekend, observed on the first Monday in September, celebrates workers and the labor movement in the U.S.

The first Labor Day was celebrated in the U.S. back in 1882 in New York. Nearly two decades later, it became an official federal holiday in 1894, the same year that witnessed the establishment of the Department of Labor.
