U.S. Major Indices Open Modestly Lower after Labor Day

The US stock market opened modestly lower after the Labor Day holiday on Monday.  

US major indices opened modestly lower at the start of the North American session on Tuesday. The S&P 500 index was lower by 2.5 points at 4524, while Dow Jones was down by 26.5 points at 35195, and the Nasdaq Composite retreated 14 points on the day at 15380.

The Nasdaq index closed at a record level on Friday.  While S&P 500 closed just below its all-time high at 4536.94.
