Pelosi Optimistic about New Stimulus

The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said on Wednesday that there remains a potential for reaching a deal on a new COVID-19 stimulus package, Reuters reported.

However, Pelosi did not clarify if an agreement would be reached before or after the upcoming elections.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Tuesday that he supports a new comprehensive COVID-19 stimulus package worth more than $2.2 trillion.

This comes despite opposition by the Republican majority in the Senate.

The White House originally proposed $1.8 trillion in relief funds, while the Democrats want $2.2 trillion.

Talks between Pelosi and the US Secretary of Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, are set to resume.

The House Speaker further noted that she wanted the bill to be passed by November 1, however, it could now be approved after the November 3 elections.
