The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) settled lower on Tuesday, as concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic continues to curb investors’ risk appetite, reflected by the rising demand for safe havens with gold prices reaching unprecedented levels.
In addition, the market is anticipating the Federal Reserve meeting, in which it is expected for interest rates to be maintained.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index closed lower by 205.5 points or 0.77% at 26,379.28.
The S&P 500 index declined by about 21 points or 0.65% to finish at 3,218.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite Index fell by 1.27% or 134.2 points and closed at 10,402.09.
