The total value of global merger and acquisition (M&A) so far this year, has already exceeded that of last year, amounting to $3.6 trillion year-to-date, according to recent data by Refinitiv.
A large chunk of this volume took place in the United States, where $2.14 trillion worth of M&A deals were announced this year, followed by Europe and Asia with $657 billion and $620 billion, respectively.
Record-breaking deals have led to the surge in M&A activity in 2021, supported by low-interest rates, support and stimulus measurements, and a positive performance by stock markets.
Moreover, the number of deals increased by 24%, reaching 35,128 year-to-date.
