Wall Street’s main indexes closed sharply lower Thursday, September 3, marking the worst daily drop since June, as investors sold technology stocks that were making big gains, while economic data highlighted concerns about the length and difficulty of the recovery.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 807.77 points, or 2.78%, to 28,292.73 points, and earlier in the session it had fallen by 1,000 points.
The S & P500 index closed down 125.78 points, or 3.51%, to 3,455.06 points, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 598.34 points, or 4.96%, to 11,458.10 points.
