US bond yields continue to rise

US Treasury bond yields have continued to surge since the beginning of daily trading on Thursday, driven by the improvement shown by data that highlighted an improvement in the housing sector as well as in the labour market in the United States.

Ten-year US Treasury bond yields rose to 4.140% compared to the last daily close, which recorded 4.109%. Returns on these sovereign securities fell to the lowest levels over the current session at 4.070%, compared to the highest levels in the same period at 4.168%.

The new home building index in the United States rose by 1.46 million units last December, compared to the previous reading, which recorded a greater increase of 1.52 million units. The monthly rise in new home construction came above market expectations of 1.42 million units.

US building permits saw an increase of 1.49 million permits last December, compared to the previous reading, which recorded an increase of 1.46 million permits, which indicates exceeding expectations that indicated 1.48 million permits.

The reading of the weekly unemployment benefits claims index fell to 187 thousand claims in the week ending January 2, compared to the previous reading, which recorded 207 thousand claims, which was lower than market expectations that indicated the same level as the previous reading.
