The United Kingdom (UK) does not plan to return to trade negotiations with the European Union (EU) next year, according to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman
“We have been repeatedly clear that any agreement needs to be in place before the end of the transition period, and we will not be back to negotiate further next year,” the spokesman said on Monday.
“We must provide certainty to our citizens and businesses, and endless prolonged negotiations won’t achieve this.”
Meanwhile, the EU will continue to work for a trade deal with London until the end of the transition period on January 1, 2021, said the European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic.
“It has to be a fair agreement for both sides – we are not going to sign an agreement at any cost.”
“The European Union is ready to work until the last minute for a good agreement for both parties.”
