UK Manufacturing Production declines 0.4% MoM in January

The latest UK industrial and manufacturing production figures issued by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Friday revealed a drop in industrial sector activity in January.

Manufacturing production was -0.4% MoM in January, compared to -0.1% expected and 0% in December, while total industrial output was -0.3% MoM, compared to -0.2% expected and 0.3% in December.

Annualized manufacturing production in the United Kingdom fell by -5.2% in January, falling short of predictions of -5.0%. Overall industrial production fell by 4.3% in January, compared to the -4.0% projected and the prior -4.0% figure.

Separately, the UK goods trade balance numbers were published, which arrived at GBP-17.855 billion in January versus GBP-17.75 billion expectations and GBP-19.271 billion last. The total trade balance (non-EU) came in at GBP-7.808 billion in January versus GBP-7.484 billion previous.
