The United States announced that all flight passengers arriving from China will be required to show a negative Covid test result before flying to the States. The decision will come into force as of January 5.
Risk sentiment is lukewarm amid fresh concerns over the covid spread worldwide once again. The Asian equities track their Wall Street counterparts lower while the US S&P 500 futures trade modestly flat so far on early Thursday’s trading.
Italy also announced that there is a plan to commence testing all arrivals from China for Covid and has urged European Union countries to follow the same procedures, after the 50% positive test rate on China flights has been detected in Milan.
China is reopening its economy after three years of isolation regardless the continued surge in COVID-19 infection cases, the world’s countries, however are bringing back restrictions on all passengers coming from China.
South Korea ponders to impose Covid testing on all Chinese visitors to the country. After denying any travel restriction to be imposed on visitors from China, the UK transport and home office officials said late Wednesday that they will consider on Thursday whether the UK should follow the US and other countries in imposing Covid restrictions on travelers flying in from China according to The Telegraph.
These countries join Japan and India, who have already announced some restrictions earlier this week after China opened up its borders.
