U.S. Retail Sales Show Strong Growth in June, Exceeding Expectations

U.S. Retail Sales rose by 0.6% on a monthly basis in June, reaching a total of $720.1 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s report released on Thursday. This increase came after a 0.9% decrease in May and surpassed market expectations, which had forecast a more modest 0.1% rise. On a yearly basis, retail sales grew 3.9% in June, an improvement from 3.3% in May.

The report also highlighted that total sales for the period from April 2025 to June 2025 were up 4.1% compared to the same period last year, indicating a positive trend in consumer spending despite earlier setbacks.

This stronger-than-expected growth in June signals robust consumer demand, contributing to a more optimistic outlook for the U.S. economy in the second quarter of 2025. The increase in retail sales reflects solid consumption, which remains a key driver of economic activity.
