U.S. Consumer Sentiment Improves in April

The U.S. Index of Consumer Sentiment rose by 1.9% this month to 86.5 from 84.9 in March, and by 20.5% on an annual basis compared with its level in April 2020, data by the University of Michigan showed on Friday.

The Current Economic Conditions Index also increased by 4.5% to 97.2 in April from 93.0 in March, and by 30.8% from the 74.3 reading of the corresponding month of last year.

Meanwhile, the Index of Consumer Expectations remained unchanged on a monthly basis at 79.7, but increased on a yearly basis by 13.7%

The survey results showed that improving economic growth and job creation is attributed to the large fiscal stimulus and the low interest rates, as well as containing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic with wider distribution of vaccinations.
