Trump Signals Military Standoff Around Iran Until “Real Deal” Is Reached

U.S. President Donald Trump said all American ships, aircraft, and military personnel will remain deployed around Iran until a “real agreement” is secured with Tehran, underscoring continued tensions despite a temporary ceasefire.

In a social media post, Trump warned that “the shootin’ starts” if no deal is reached, although he described such an outcome as unlikely. He reiterated that any agreement must ensure Iran has no nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure, claiming such terms had effectively already been agreed upon.

His remarks come just days after Washington and Tehran entered a tentative two-week ceasefire. However, the fragile truce quickly came under strain, with Iran accusing the United States and Israel of violating elements of a proposed 10-point peace framework.

Tehran also pushed back against planned ceasefire talks in Pakistan, calling them “unreasonable,” and insisted that Lebanon be included in any broader agreement. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes on Lebanon continued late into Wednesday, further complicating diplomatic efforts.

Despite U.S. claims of significant military success—including weakening Iran’s naval and missile capabilities and curbing its nuclear ambitions—Iran has maintained attacks on U.S., Israeli, and Gulf targets. The Strait of Hormuz also remains largely disrupted, adding to global uncertainty.

Direct negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are expected to take place in Pakistan on Friday, marking the first formal talks since the conflict began in late February. However, the structure and potential outcomes of these discussions remain unclear.

The ongoing standoff follows one of the largest U.S. military deployments to the Middle East in decades, with two aircraft carriers, multiple strike groups, and approximately 50,000 troops positioned across the region.
