Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Ministry of Health has given its approval to the world’s first vaccine to combat Covid-19 disease, which was developed by the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, less than two months after it was tested on humans.
This step paves the way for large-scale vaccination even as the final stages of clinical trials to test the safety and efficacy of the vaccine continue.
The speed with which Russia is moving to produce the vaccine highlights its determination to win the global race to find an effective product, but it raises fears among some that this is at the expense of the correct scientific method and safety.
