Russia is ready to resume gas supplies to Europe via the Yamal-Europe pipeline

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told the official Tass news agency that Moscow is ready to resume gas supplies to Europe through the Yamal-Europe pipeline.

“The European market is still important with the continued gas shortage, and we have every opportunity to resume supplies,” TASS quoted Novak as saying in remarks published by the agency on Sunday.

“For example, the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which was stopped for political reasons, is still not in use.”

Gas normally flows through the Yamal-Europe pipeline to the west but has mostly been cut off since December 2021 after Poland stopped buying from Russia based on gas stored in Germany.

Warsaw ended its deal with Russia in May after earlier rejecting Moscow’s demand for payment in rubles.

Russia’s Gazprom responded by cutting off supplies and also said it would not be able to export gas through Poland after Moscow imposed sanctions against the company that owns the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe pipeline.

Novak also confirmed that Moscow is discussing pumping additional gas supplies through Turkey after establishing a center there.

He added that Moscow expects to pump 21 billion cubic meters of LNG to Europe in 2022.
