Rising Pandemic Concerns Focused on New Variants Despite Vaccinations

A recent report has warned against the rising number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and fatalities, despite the improvement that is mostly attributed to the wide rollout of vaccines.

Experts in the Yale School of Public Health and the Commonwealth Fund believe that without a vaccination program, there would have been approximately 279,000 additional deaths and up to 1.25 million additional hospitalizations by the end of last month in the U.S. alone.

Not only are cases are rising in the U.S., but some Asian countries such as South Korea are seeing record high levels of daily new cases.

Some vaccines are reportedly effective against the variant, including J&J and Moderna, while a recent Oxford study reportedly suggested that giving people two vaccines, with one in each dose, might lead to prolonged immunity. The studies vaccines were Pfizer- BioNTech and AstraZeneca.

Moderna recently said that its coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine is showing promising results against the Delta variant.

Tests reportedly showed the vaccine led to an antibody response against all the studies variants, the company announced on Tuesday.

The Delta variant was first discovered in India and appeared in many countries, leading to concerns about containing the pandemic.

Moreover, the Moderna vaccine is more effective against the Delta variant than the Beta variant, which was first identified in South Africa.

Yesterday, Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic warned that a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic with the Delta variant might hinder or slow the economic recovery, with an impact on consumer demand.
