UK prominent political figure Liz Truss, who aspires to succeed Boris Johnson in office as coming Prime Minister, criticized the green energy levy on all bills. Truss believes that by removing that levy, Britain would save people money on their bills.
On the other hand, Truss has said “But what won’t work is simply a sticking plaster of handing more money out without dealing with the root cause. What I’m determined to do is deal with the root cause to make sure that we have energy security in this country”.
According to Truss, the world is seeing Putin perpetrating an awful war in Ukraine and he is using energy supply as leverage against Europe and, so, the UK needs to make sure that the country has “more of our own energy supply and more domestic resilience and that is my focus”.
According to Truss, those are long term aims though, but are not long term goals. People want to know what the government will do this winter. Rishi Sunak says that your plans or lack of plans will tip millions of people into destitution according to Truss.
“What I am saying is that we need to get on urgently with addressing the supply issues which are taken too long to deal with. And that means using more gas from the North Sea it means getting on with nuclear power. It means using more renewables and I’m committed to doing all of that but what I’m not prepared to do in the middle of what is still a leadership campaign to announce a future budget”, said Truss.
