Monday’s Asian session was calm.
The Nikkei index posted its biggest gain in more than 4 months, up 2.61% to 29,647 points, its highest since late September. The broader Topix index rose 2.18%, reaching its highest level in a month at 2044.72 points.
Gold traded at $1,783.01 an ounce after dropping 1.5 percent to its lowest level in more than a week on Friday, and US gold futures rose 0.1% to $1,784.801 an ounce.
The German DAX and the French CAC 40 rose by about 0.8 percent, while the British FTSE 100 index increased by only 0.4 percent.
Germany’s Retail Sales dropped sharply by 2.5% MoM in September versus 0.6% expected and 1.1% last, the official figures released by Destatis showed on Monday.
