Mario Draghi was sworn in on Saturday as prime minister in Italy, following weeks of an unprecedented crisis in the third economies of the euro area.
“I swear to be loyal to the republic,” echoed the former president of the European Central Bank.
He was standing in front of President Sergio Mattarella in the presidential palace during the ceremony broadcast live on television.
The 73-year-old economist will head a new national unity government to replace Giuseppe Conte (centre-left) coalition that collapsed a month ago, to lead his country to overcome the devastating repercussions of the Covid-19 Panedmic.
