French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about completing the European Union’s proposal to ban all Russian oil imports as part of the sixth package of sanctions targeting Russia, the French presidential palace said on Tuesday.
“There are contacts at all levels to ensure that a comprehensive agreement is reached on the sixth package,” an official from the Elysee Palace said.
Among the 27 European Union countries, Hungary is the most critical of the Russian oil embargo plan.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday she had made progress in talks with Orban over the plan.
