Japan’s Nikkei Falls on US Stock Losses And Record Corona Cases in Tokyo

The Nikkei index fell to its lowest level in nearly 6 months on Wednesday, July 28, as losses in the US stock market and concerns about the growing cases with the Coronavirus affected sentiment.

The Nikkei index fell 1.39% to 27,581.66 points, close to its lowest level in about 6 and a half months of 27,330, which it touched last week. The broader Topix index fell 0.95% to record 1919.65 points, losses led by growth stocks that lost 1.28%.

The decline came after losses in US stocks ahead of a meeting of the US Federal Council and in conjunction with a jump in Covid-19 cases in Tokyo to reach a record high of 2,848 cases.
