The Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio, announced the imposition of sanctions against Russia against the backdrop of Russia’s recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics from Ukraine.
Japan’s sanctions stipulate banning exports from the republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, freezing the assets of their officials, and banning issuing visas to their representatives.
The Japanese prime minister added that if the situation around Ukraine escalates, Japan will consider additional restrictive measures against Russia. Eventually, Japan called on Russia to return to a diplomatic settlement of the crisis over Ukraine.
The United States and Europe have begun to impose sanctions on Russia over its escalatory movement in eastern Ukraine. The world will look at the global economic effects of this movement.
