Italy said on Saturday it aims to vaccinate at least 80% of its population against COVID-19 by September by ramping up its daily vaccination campaign.
Francesco Paolo Vignolo, the new special commissioner for the Coronavirus, announced a general plan to distribute 500,000 vaccine doses per day, according to a statement issued by the Cabinet Office.
Italy has recorded 101,881 deaths related to Covid-19 since its appearance in February of last year, the second-highest toll in Europe after Britain and the seventh highest in the world.
The total number of injuries in Italy has so far reached three million and 200 thousand.
