Germany Calls EU Members for COVID-19 Recovery Fund

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that members of the European Union (EU) must agree on a deal to help fund the recovery of the bloc’s economies from the effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

A deal must be reached before the end of summer, Merkel stressed in her remarks on Thursday that were picked up by Reuters.

The pandemic is not over yet, and Europe is facing the toughest situation in history, the German chancellor added.

This comes one day after Germany assumed presidency of the EU.
