Germany and Ireland Avoiding New Shutdowns

The German and Irish governments are reportedly trying to avoid a new lockdown, as part of preventive measures against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to Reuters.

As businesses could be hit hard, the move seems to be falling out of favor in Berlin and Dublin.

“There must not be a second shutdown. And as far as it is up to me, there will not be a second shutdown for industry,” said Germany’s Minister of Economy, Peter Altmaier, on Monday in a press event.

Meanwhile in Ireland, the government has rejected a recommendation by health authorities to impose lockdown.

Instead, the Irish government aims to tighten preventive and precautionary measurements.
