German Consumer Sentiment Rises

German consumer sentiment rose against expectations as October reached its highest level in a year and a half, according to a survey published on Tuesday, September 28, in a sign that households continue to support the recovery in Europe’s largest economy.

The GfK institute said its consumer confidence index, which is based on a survey of nearly 2,000 Germans, rose to 0.3 points for the month of October from a revised reading of minus 1.1 points the previous month.

The reading compares with Reuters expectations of minus 1.6.
