China Records Highest Increase in New Cases of Coronavirus Since Last April

The National Health Commission of China said today, Friday, that mainland China recorded 144 new cases of the new Coronavirus on January 14, up from 138 cases the day before.

The commission said in a statement that 135 of the new cases were local cases, including 90 in Hebei Province, which surrounds the capital, Beijing, and 43 in Heilongjiang Province, northeast of the country.

According to the worldometers website, the number of new infections has risen to the highest level since mid-April, when China detected about 325 new infections.

Added that the number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not consider as confirmed cases, has decreased to 66 from 78 the previous day.

The total confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease on the Chinese mainland reached 87,988, and the death toll remained stable at 4,635.
