In December, Chinese exports rose more than analysts’ expectations, while imports rose less than expected.
On Friday, the Chinese Customs Administration revealed, in a statement carried by CNBC, that exports rose by 20.9 percent year on year last month to $340.49 billion, against expectations of a 20 percent increase, compared to a 22 percent increase in November.
Imports rose 19.5% during the same period, compared to expectations of a 26.3% increase, and compared to an increase of 31.7% in November.
China’s total exports increased in 2021 by 29.9 percent, while imports increased by 30.1 percent, and China’s trade balance surplus over last year’s total reached $676.43 billion, the highest level ever.
China’s total exports to the United States increased last year by 27.5 percent to $576.11 billion, while imports rose 32.7 percent to $179.53 billion, and the total trade balance surplus with America in 2021 reached $396.58 billion.
