Britain Records a Significant Increase in Infections With the Delta Variant

Data from the Public Health Authority in Britain revealed a significant new increase in weekly infections with the Delta strain of the Coronavirus after Prime Minister Boris Johnson decided to postpone the final lifting of the restrictions on the general closure.

The Public Health Authority detected 33,630 new infections with the Delta strain, which was first discovered in India during the week ending June 16, bringing the number of confirmed infections to 75,953, an increase of 79% over the previous count.

The Delta strain now makes up 91% of cases, according to Public Health Authority data. To counter the increase in infections with this strain, Johnson is seeking to speed up vaccination plans so that all adults will receive a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by July 19, the new date set for plans to end pandemic restrictions in England.
