Britain Pledges $100 Million to Help Ukraine

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office said Britain will provide $100 million (£75.6 million) to Ukraine through the World Bank as it seeks to keep the country running its core functions and alleviate the financial pressures caused by the Russian invasion.

Britain is seeking to play a pivotal role in the international response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by providing defensive military assistance, advocating for tougher sanctions again on the Kremlin, and providing financial support.

Nevertheless, Johnson’s government has faced criticism that its penalties are too slow and its refugee program disappointing.

British authorities said the money could be used to pay salaries for Ukraine’s public sector employees or fund pension and social security payments. This is on top of the $290.95m (£220m) Britain has already pledged.
